2011, The Year To Say ‘Goodbye salt, Hello flavour’

Seabrook Crisps launches a new, ground-breaking range of crisps with at least 90% less salt* but 100% great taste, as government urges the nation to slash its salt intake. We all know that we should seriously consider reducing our salt intake, but we also know it makes things taste great! Most adults have too much salt in their diets, 26 million of us to be exact, and 75% of our salt intake comes from the food that we buy – rather than added ourselves – so does that mean we have to make a choice between tasty or healthier? Not any more. Seabrook Crisps, the pioneering brand that has brought us many crispy firsts, from introducing healthier sunflower oil to the cooking process in the 1980s, to taking the ground-breaking step of removing MSG from all its crisps in 2007, has now discovered a way to make a range of fully-flavoured crisps, without adding one single grain of salt, aptly named Goodbye salt, Hello flavour. This is great news for British crisp lovers - where the crisp market is worth more than £1 billion - as more than half of all adults are considered to be health-conscious snackers. Supermarkets are full of shelves stacked with healthier alternatives to help lower fat and reduce calories, but it’s only since The Food Standards Agency recently set a target of reducing the daily salt intake of an adult to 6g by 2012, that an emphasis of healthy eating has been placed on salt intake levels. This breakthrough from Seabrook Crisps means that, for the first time in the history of the humble crisp, consumers looking to cut down on their salt intake without compromising on taste will finally have a choice to buy tasty crisps with at least 90% less salt*, no MSG and no nasty additives – simply great tasting crinkle cut crisps. Ken Brook-Chrispin, Chairman and CEO at Seabrook Crisps comments: “The passion and commitment for accomplishing this, what is, quite frankly, a massive milestone in our industry, was our response to consumer demand for a crisp with no added salt that still manages to deliver a great flavour. "I’ll admit it has been no mean feat for us, and we have undertaken huge amounts of development and research to finally create crisps which live up to our renowned reputation for making the ultimate, tasty crinkle-cut crisps, while enabling the nation to continue its obsession with the humble potato snack AND reduce its salt intake. We are all very proud of what we have achieved with the launch of Goodbye salt, Hello flavour. It presents a significant investment of over £1.5m and we have high hopes for this unique range to assist us in maintaining Seabrook as Britain’s fastest growing crisp brand." What’s more, every pack of Goodbye salt, Hello flavour sold will help raise money for Breast Cancer Care, to which Seabrook has pledged a donation of £40,000. Breast Cancer Care provides expert support to people in the UK living with breast cancer. www.breastcancercare.org.uk. Goodbye salt, Hello flavour is available in four lip-smacking flavours; Jacket Potato with Mediterranean Tomato & Herbs, Jacket Potato with Tommy Ketchup, Jacket Potato with Caramelised Onion and Jacket Potato with Creamy Butter. All flavours are available in 6 x 31.8g bag Multi-Packs (rrp £1.99) and 40g grab bags (rrp £0.65p). The range will be available nationally at most retailers.
